Why Yes, it was Cloudy.

So no Mercury and the Moon for me. Have a picture from a couple of days ago instead. Click to embiggen. Mercury is just above the telegraph pole, Venus, Mars and Saturn are obvious and the bright streak is an artefact from the sodium light in the street.

Did any you you folks see Mercury and the Moon?

Thanks for the good heads-up again for this conjunction Ian.

Pretty good conditions in Brisbane.

Here are some of the better shots I managed with a fairly old camera mounted on a Gorillapod.

Hey, very nice indeed! What's a Gorillapad?

They're handy little portable tripods for mounting cameras to railings or other surfaces (but I tend to find myself making use of hand railings more often than not). On a bridge or balcony, it can be easier than lugging a large expensive tripod to set up.

It does take a little while to make sure everything is fixed securely and level; but for something that fits in my pocket and stabilises a point 'n shoot camera (particularly with a self-timer), it's great.

Many local camera stores here stock them. Mine is the "Original" - you could also get suction cup accessories to attach them to phone cameras and the like.

Manufacturer's site: http://joby.com/gorillapod/original/

Raymond.
