The Firecracker Sun

My inbox is being over-run by automatic notification of solar flares of M-class intensity. Sunspot1164 seems to be responsible for them, and while it is not in a favorable position being on the edge of the solar disk, at least one may have an Earth-directed component (see this movie here).

So high latitude observers should keep an eye out for aurora, around midnight or early tomorrow morning.
